Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions -09 had a few new features like extra food counters ,bank staals, ebook stalls and more than all of this an Educationa Fair, which i believe i totally unnecessary. In the fair, u find stalls of some unknown colleges which are owned especially by big shots of this society.Students finishing their high school ,after a great strain and updated information on the availability of seats decide the college they wish to join , before they come for counselling. But, once they enter the university premises, they are subjected to lot of disturbance which is not good at a very important moment like this. A student walking in for counselling is targeted by representatives of so many colleges, they are persuaded to join the particular coll they are talking about and he/she would have pamplets of around 20 different colleges before they reach the counselling hall. This would bring more pressure to the student and also to their parents. There are hoardings in the university that says, course and college once decided cannot be changed. So to avoid any mishaps in a life-deciding decision ,the authorities should take necessary action to avoid this.
Hope there is not an Education Fair next year to confuse the students and let them take their decision hassle free!
Students with cut-off marks as low as 70.5 were counselled into engineering colleges! Which means, an Engineering course demands a bare pass in Higher Secondary science and maths. Makes me wonder how many of the thousands who have opted to study engineering would become "engineers" in the true sense of the word.
ReplyDeleteI ask myself: how good an engineer are we growing to be? When the society demands an engineer of any stream to morph into a "Software Professional" on completion of the course, why have other streams at all?
Importantly, why have an over-excess of colleges that offer Engineering courses when the whole stream has become redundant?
An amusing aspect of this year's choice of courses is that people warded off Info-Tech and Computer Science courses due to the economic slowdown. It is ironical that most people who have chosen core engineering streams would happily settle for a BPO job!
The most important doubt running through my head now.. Am I, an half baked engineer, of enough worth to have pondered so? What is our merit? Our value? Peers and Engineers, I so want to know...

Hi! I know what you mean! And you forgot to mention the littering of pamphlets and other garbage all around campus! In a way, I'm glad it's all over!
